Healthy Vegan Kids

Please join us on Sunday June 3rd at the Kapaa Neighborhood Center for the Hawaii Vegetarian Society’s monthly vegan potluck. Mele Abrams will discuss why a vegan diet is a healthy choice for children. As a vegetarian for over 30 years, and the mother of 4 healthy vegan children, Mele will share her kids favorite recipes and talk about her vegan pregnancies.

Come discover why the American Dietetic Association and the Dieticians of Canada hold the position that ‘well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals.’
