Our first Healthy Ohana Foundation event – Kapaa High School, Kaua’i, Hawaii

February 3, 2010 at 1:41 am 3 comments

Today was our first Healthy Ohana Foundation event. We formed this nonprofit with our friends Devin and Betsy from Pure Prescriptions. Our goal with the Healthy Ohana Foundation is to provide education on the importance of a healthy plant-based diet and lifestyle. As a first step, we intend to offer cooking classes and demonstrations in schools, hospitals and other community outlets.

We shared two recipes with the food science class at Kapaa High School on Kaua’i – Crispy Kale (courtesy of our sister-in-law Elizabeth Warfield Murray) and Da Kine No-bake Cookies (courtesy of Vegan Fusion World Cuisine). This was the first time many of the students tried kale and/or a vegan dessert. We are happy to say that the dishes were very well received by the students. Many thanks to teacher Judy Kuloloia for helping to facilitate the event. Stay tuned as we post photos of students and some of their comments.

Mahalo for showing our Kapa’a High School students an alternative to what they are accustomed to eating. I wanted to know do you have the recipe for the crispy kale? I grow healthy kale in my organic plot in the Malama Kauai Community garden in Kilauea and would love a knew recipe. Again, mahalo
